Three Times A Charm with Heidi Angell

Welcome to Three Times A Charm. I love to introduce readers to the people involved in children’s publishing. Today we welcome author, Heidi Angell. Heidi, can tell us a little about yourself?

I am a wordsmith, bibliophile and lexicomaniac. What can I say, I love everything about the written word! When I am not writing (which is a rare moment, indeed!) I can be found getting my groove on while cleaning, hiking or swimming with my family, watching movies, or planning some adventure in the kitchen.

Adventures in the kitchen – sounds like a book in itself. Tell us about your book, Hell School: Fresh Meat.

High school is hard, especially when you're a freshman in a new town, surrounded by people you don't understand and who don't understand you.  Sam was overwhelmed just trying to fit in. Then she is singled out with the first letter.

While some girls envy the “romantics” of this unknown admirer, Sam can tell something isn't right.  Sam wanted to just blend in, but someone's eye is fixated on her.  As the letters and bad poetry continue, so does the nagging in Sam's stomach telling her this is not normal.

When things escalate from strange to creepy, Sam's world becomes a nightmare.  Twisted admiration is stalking her around every corner in the high school from hell….

I recommend my book to readers who like: Pretty Little Liars, Clarity series,  or From Where I Watch You.

Hell School: Fresh Meat is available for preorder on Amazon and Smashwords.

Sounds great! Now let’s move onto the Three’s so our readers can know you a little better.

  • Top 3 favorite ways to interact with readers.

I love 1. Reading reviews- they really are the life blood of an author. Learning what readers thought, what they liked, what they didn’t like. It helps writers improve and meet their readers’ needs and desires. 2. Interacting with readers on Goodreads. It is such a great community. I spend WAY too much time on there. 3. I love when readers contact me on social media. I spend an awful lot of time on Facebook, twitter, Pinterest, and Google +. I love sharing pins of readers’ favorite quotes from my books, chatting about books (not just mine!) and sharing great reads.

  • Top 3 professions you wanted to be when you grew up.

1. Writer.  Yep, since first grade, I knew I wanted to be a writer. That word obsession needed to be put to good use! 2. Actor- I did community theater, and actually majored in theater for a good chunk of college. I went to a lot of auditions, but then I got married and started a family. Theater requires a whole focus that I just couldn’t provide. I would love to do community theater again once my boys are more independent 3. Oceanographer- Yeah, I don’t know where this one came from either. I have always loved the ocean and my environmental science teacher encouraged that. I am not exceptionally good with science and math, but she opened up a science field that I actually found fascinating and could see as a viable career path, but you are limited with college options for such a degree and I just couldn’t afford to go away for school.

  • Top 3 personal mantras or inspirational phrases.

1. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. 2. Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you will end up among the stars. 3. Goals are simply dreams with deadlines.

  10. What a fun interview, ladies. Getting letters like that would be scary. Your book sounds fantastic. High school years are tough enough, without having to face a person like that. Best of luck.

  11. Thanks Beverly, it was creepy. Sadly, people don't realize that 1 in 7 young women between the age of 14-25 will suffer at the hands of a stalker. 1 in 16 young men in the same age will report a stalker. The internet makes it so much easier to stalk people. I hope to bring some light to these issues so that other young women will not suffer as I did.
