Fish Detectives by Kelly Hashway

Image
When Kelly Hashway asked if I could review her latest picture book, Fish Detectives , I said, "Absolutely!" I love both Kelly's writing and K.C. Snider's artwork, so I knew this would be a slam dunk for me.  Sure enough, Fish Detectives is as much fun as I thought it would be. So much so, that I wanted to include a few interview questions with Kelly and K.C., too. So let's take a moment to talk to the ladies before I share my review of the book. Kelly, Horatio and Alexander are so cute. What inspired you to create two mystery solving fish? My mother told me she had two fish named Horatio and Alexander when she was growing up. I loved the names, and for some reason they sounded like detectives to me. From there I imagined what kind of cases they might solve in a fish tank. K.C.,   Horatio, Alexander, and Gus are all very beautiful fish and the emotion in their expressions really adds to their character. Do you have fish or did you visit a pet stor...

Grab a pen and paper, or log onto Goodreads, because more than likely you’ll find a title or two to add to your very own list. Please visit the authors’ websites and browse their work. Be sure to come back weekly to learn more about other awesome authors! I asked authors to share with us which book is their favorite Young Adult Fantasy . GRACELING by Kristin Cashore This book has a great fantasy hook with the Graces, a wonderfully complex female lead in Katsa, a rich fantasy world, a totally crush-worthy romantic interest in Prince Po, and a plot that kept me reading for hours on end. Pretty much everything I look for in a book! – Katie L.Carroll (Katie writes fiction for teens and kids)  Becca Fitzpatrick’s Hush, Hush Series. I fell in love with Patch and Nora. They are such a great couple with...

Today we have a special treat. To celebrate their story bundle TEXT ME: 8 Novels of First Love , the authors are sharing their own first love stories. It is sort of like a box of chocolates. Welcome to my blog feature, Building Character in which you get to meet a character from a book. Talking to a character outside of their book is fun! Huge. Amounts. Of fun.   This week Strands of Thought is host to Meg Flannigan from Love All. Welcome, Meg. Tell us readers a little about yourself and what your life is like. Hi! I’m Meg Flannigan. It’s okay, you can tell us.             This isn’t easy to talk about at all, but here it goes. When I was a sophomore, my boyfriend cheated on me with a f...
