Book Spotlight on White Hellebore by Nicole Zoltack
I'm stretching a tad outside my normal viewing audience today to bring you a new adult title. "WHY?!" you ask? One word: Superheroes. Sometimes it's two words: Super heroes. Either way, how can I not highlight this brand new book, White Hellebore, (book 2 in the series) for the adorable author Nicole Zoltack when we all know my obsession with SUPERS!
Ladies and gentlemen, White Hellebore:
EXCERPT:
Closing his eyes, he
listened intently, but no other sounds echoed throughout the empty corridors.
The only heartbeat he heard, steady and rather slow, was his own. No one else
was here. Maybe he was hearing things.
Only the spotlight above
the Egyptian statue was on, and Nicholas flooded the museum entrance with light
with a flick of a switch. On Monday, Cathy planned to move the Statue of the
Black-Hearted Kiya to the Egyptian exhibit, but for its big reveal, she placed
it where everyone could see it as soon as they entered the museum.
The spotlight flickered
and went out.
"Nicholas..."
a faint voice cried out.
But he still heard no
other heartbeat.
Justina?
He circled slowly, but
saw no flash of white. In his visions, Justina usually wore a thin white dress.
"Nicholas..."
Now he knew where the
voice originated. The statue.
Curiosity drew him
closer, and the rope pressed against his stomach.
"Nicholas..."
The voice wasn't spoken.
He heard it in his mind.
Who are you?
"You know
already."
The voice spoke in
English, but heavily accented. Soft, yet with an edge.
Why wasn't Gavina here?
She would know how to ignore the voice. Block it out.
Why couldn't he do that
himself? He imagined bricks and building a literal wall. Laughter sounded, and
a hammer appeared in his mind. It smashed the wall, destroying it.
Okay, that was beyond
bizarre.
"Nicholas..."
"Gavina! I need
you."
"Do you love this
Gavina?" the voice asked.
"Leave me
alone." Nicholas tried to turn away, but his legs refused to move.
Oh, hell no. This was so not happening. Nicholas used all his
super strength and lifted his right leg, forcing himself to walk away. His body
betrayed him, marching forward and knocking down the rope perimeter. Against
his will and might, he removed the black cloth and tossed it onto the ground.
The spotlight turned on,
brighter than before, blinding him. His eyes slowly adjusted. Her golden eyes
creeped him out. Despite the nuggets, she had pupils. And her painted lips
parted.
"Nicholas..."
He closed his eyes and
now found himself able to force the voice away. Kneeling down, he felt around
for the cloth and re-covered the statue. After fixing the rope, Nicholas walked
around the length of the museum at human speed, making sure everything was
secure, and using his ears to be certain nothing happened to the statue.
Kiya did not speak to
him again that night, but he had a feeling it was only a matter of time before
she tried again. The only question was whether or not she'd attempt contact
with him or someone else.
About the book:
After destroying Skull Krusher, Nicholas Adams thinks Falledge
is safe and becomes a security guard at the museum, watching a valuable statue.
Unfortunately, the Egyptian statue houses the soul of a scorned witch, biding
her time to have her revenge on the descendants of her cheating lover.
Kiya the witch isn't the only new foe in town as the drug that
created Skull Krusher has now transformed a scientist into yet another monster,
forcing Nicholas to don his Black Hellebore mask again and save Falledge.
Nicholas has no help this time as Kiya gains possession of his
love Julianna's body and brings the soul of Justina, Nicholas's high school
sweetheart and Julianna's twin, with her. Despite himself, Nicholas is torn
between the sisters. If he can't stop the fiends from taking over the world and
destroying humankind, he'd never be able to find lasting, true love.
